Working From Home - What Really Earns You the Money

Well here's the secret to the exact three things that make you money in a working from home business:

1) Generating interest in your products or business.

This means generating leads, prospects or whatever you'd like to call them. Its getting someone to say "hey what you have sounds like what I am looking for tell me more". That's a lead.

With an internet based business you can get two types of leads - one with an email and one with an email and phone number. The one with a number is MUCH better and worth more. Your business wont survive if you don't get some with a phone number. And preferably as many as possible.

How many do you need? Depends on your business. For most network marketing start by aiming for 10 a day. When you are there you'll know if you need more or not!

2) Responding to that interest / leads.

Ok now I know this one sounds obvious. But we are talking here about the things that earn you money in your business. And this is one of them of course.

Respond as quickly as you can. Think about what sort of customer service you like to get and provide that where you can.

For those in Network marketing or Multi level marketing already who are working with a team. Your time spent mentoring also comes into this category. So yes we are always responding to fresh new leads. But we can also be working with existing clients, customers, team here too.

3) Working on yourself to get better at the first two.

This DOES earn you money. Because often your time management or skill in generating or dealing with leads can hold you back.

So you MUST work on yourself to get better at the skills you need to do numbers 1 and 2. No exceptions I'm afraid! This is the personal development part of your business and it can be the most valuable part.

The people who work for the parent company are called distributors, or associates, or independent business owners, or consultants. The one thing that differs them from other types of businesses is that they don't work for a salary, they work on commission. So if they spend eight hours a day trying to sell a product, and they can't get the product to sell, they have nothing to show for that day except some tired feet.

Well, that's the way it used to be. With the advent of the internet over a decade ago, it has become easier and easier to latch on to MLM business opportunities. for multi-level marketers to sell their wares online. It has become easier for people to network, and to find customers, and to exchange money for goods.

One way that MLM distributors make money is by forming a "downline." What this means is that they recruit other people to sell the parent company's goods, and each time their recruit sells a product, they get royalties from that sale as well. And if their recruit should recruit someone else, the first person also gets royalties off of that person's sales.

Theoretically, MLM distributors therefore can make a lot of money and not actually have to do any work of their own - they have people who do that. In real life, there are actually very few successfully created downlines. Nevertheless, with the right parent company, such a network of moneymakers is possible.

MLM Scams - Real Or Imaginary?

With the current economic climate, more and more people are out of 9-5 jobs, where they go to a bricks-and-mortar building, and get paid a monthly salary. In order to get by, they are looking for any opportunity, and multi-level marketing looks very promising. Previously, this was mostly the domain of housewives, who had a lot of time on their hands and would go about trying to sale Amway or Avon or Melaleuca. Basically cleaning or cosmetic supplies.

The whole field has expanded now. Practically anything that can be sold can be sold in multi-level marketing fashion.

However, just as in any other field, when there are a lot of people looking for work, there's also a lot of people looking to scam them. So what are MLM scams?

Some can just be your typical business scam. You buy a certain amount of inventory, which you sell. You're supposed to get a commission from the company.... and they don't pay you that commission. More than that, they've skipped town!

Also just another typical business scam (i.e. not confined to being MLM scams) is for the parent company to create a product that just doesn't do what it's supposed to do. A silver polisher that strips the patina off silver rather than maintaining it, for example. The company will go great guns for from three to six months, as people buy the stuff, but before the complaints start hitting the Better Business Bureau. Once the word is out that the product is no good, the company will just shrug, say sorry, and walk away, leaving both its distributors and its former customers with nothing.

The main scam that people think of when they think of MLM scams is the whole process of the downline, or pyramid, where everyone recruits distributors, but no one sells any product. The people at the top get "royalties" from the people at the bottom who need to purchase product for inventory purposes, which they can never sell.

How Network Marketing Can Make Money For You

Network marketing is also known as multi-level marketing. It refers to the kind of home-based business where one independent agent recruits other agents to work with him or her, and then receives part of their proceeds. In this way, each person's success depends on that success of everyone else, and the better one person does, the better everyone does.

There are several different ways that network marketing can make money for you.

Your pay structure might be what is known as a binary plan. To envision this plan, imagine yourself at the top of a pyramid. You recruit two people, who are placed beneath you in the pyramid. The great thing about this structure is that if you recruit more than two people, you do not place them directly below you in the structure, but rather, you place them beneath your recruit, thereby enable them to make money as well. Everyone benefits from this, even if they are not the best recruiters or sales people, because money flows up the pyramid.

There are also unilevel plans, which are quite simple, even more simple than binary plans. The pyramid expands horizontally, with every one of your recruits being placed under you. This gives you a chance to build a broader structure with more money flowing directly to you, so that you get a greater share of it. You also get a share of their recruits' commissions.

Then there are matrix plans, which are a combination between binary and unilevel plans. You do place many people on your first level, though it's a smaller number than with a pure unilevel plan. Later you can place recruits under your recruits. This way you get the advantages of many lines of income flowing to you, but you also get the supportive structure built into a binary payment plan.
